About
Organised Volunteer Marine Rescue services in Narooma commenced in the early 1970s. These evolved through various groups, until the current Marine Rescue NSW Narooma Unit was formed in 2010. The Unit is staffed by approximately 45 volunteer members.
The unit provides rescue services in ocean waters around Narooma, as well as in Wagonga Inlet, using two dedicated vessels.
The Unit also provides a marine radio monitoring service, working from the old Pilot Station on the headland to the south of the Narooma Bar. The base is staffed from dawn until dusk every day of the year, with after-hours monitoring provided through MRNSW in Sydney. Unit members are on call to respond to incidents 24-hours a day.
